Start with the basics
Science tests explanations using observations and evidence. Technology applies knowledge to solve practical problems.
A student thinks plants grow better with light. How could she test that fairly?
Remember: Changing several things at once makes it harder to identify the cause.
Log in to save highlights and answer practice questions. Select text in a note, then choose a highlight colour. On mobile, touch and hold to select. Choose Save highlights or Save changes to save to your account. You’ll be prompted before leaving unsaved study changes.
Organise static facts by theme and current events by date and source. Revise institutions and the meaning of economic indicators.
Balance static facts with a dated current-affairs log. Verify volatile facts close to the exam; do not treat an old list as current.
Explain the idea in your own words before opening the answer. Then apply it to the example.
Explain the main rule in everyday science, then apply it to a small example. State the assumption that makes your reasoning valid.
Review the noteUnderstand a principle through an ordinary observation, then distinguish cause from correlation. State the conditions under which the principle applies.
Worked example: A metal spoon often feels colder than wood at the same room temperature because it transfers heat from your hand faster, not because its temperature must be lower.
Explain the main rule in technology and society, then apply it to a small example. State the assumption that makes your reasoning valid.
Review the noteStudy what a technology does, its limits and its practical effects. Separate a capability from claims that it is always accurate or unbiased.
Worked example: An automated prediction can help allocate attention but may inherit biased training data. Evaluate data quality and error costs rather than treating automation as proof of correctness.
Explain the main rule in scientific developments, then apply it to a small example. State the assumption that makes your reasoning valid.
Review the noteRecord a development's date, institution, achievement and remaining uncertainty. A preliminary result is not the same as an independently confirmed finding.
Worked example: For a reported new battery, check whether the claim concerns laboratory capacity, cycle life or commercial production. These are different milestones.
BEGINNER
Measure growth repeatedly; the drawing does not show an experimental result.
