Start with the basics
Innovation finds a useful new approach or improves an existing one. Intellectual property concerns rules around certain creations and identifiers.
You design a school bag with an easier-to-reach pocket. What makes this an improvement?
Remember: A useful design and legal protection are separate questions; do not assume every idea receives protection.
Log in to save highlights and answer practice questions. Select text in a note, then choose a highlight colour. On mobile, touch and hold to select. Choose Save highlights or Save changes to save to your account. You’ll be prompted before leaving unsaved study changes.
Connect terms to business examples: customer need, business model, funding, innovation, IP and execution. Verify current scheme details on official portals.
Explain the idea in your own words before opening the answer. Then apply it to the example.
Explain the main rule in innovation, then apply it to a small example. State the assumption that makes your reasoning valid.
Review the noteInnovation applies a useful new or improved product, process or business model. An invention is not automatically a viable innovation.
Worked example: A shop using a simple queue system may reduce waiting without inventing new hardware. The practical improvement is a process innovation when it creates value.
Explain the main rule in intellectual property, then apply it to a small example. State the assumption that makes your reasoning valid.
Review the notePatents, copyright, trademarks and trade secrets protect different interests. This is exam-level concept study, not legal advice; verify jurisdiction-specific rules.
Worked example: A brand name may be protected as a trademark, while the expression in a book can be protected by copyright. Copyright in a manual does not automatically grant a patent on a machine it describes.

Compare ease of reaching the pocket; a redesign does not itself establish IP protection.
