Start with the basics
A code changes symbols using a rule. Discover the rule from examples and apply it consistently.
A rule shifts each letter one place forward: CAT becomes DBU. Encode DOG.
Remember: A single example may fit several rules. Use all supplied examples.
Log in to save highlights and answer practice questions. Select text in a note, then choose a highlight colour. On mobile, touch and hold to select. Choose Save highlights or Save changes to save to your account. You’ll be prompted before leaving unsaved study changes.
Use diagrams for relationships and distinguish logical necessity from everyday plausibility.
Translate statements into diagrams or simple conditions. Check whether a conclusion is necessary rather than merely possible.
Test assumptions and deductions, then use small structured cases for puzzles and input-output rules.
Use compact diagrams, clear direction conventions and quick elimination. Skip long uncertain branches and return later.
Explain the idea in your own words before opening the answer. Then apply it to the example.
Explain the main rule in letter codes, then apply it to a small example. State the assumption that makes your reasoning valid.
Review the noteTranslate letters to positions only when the examples support that rule. Test shifts, reversal and alternating operations against all supplied examples.
Worked example: If CAT becomes DBU, each letter shifts forward one position. DOG becomes EPH under the same rule. A second example is needed before assuming a more complicated pattern.
Explain the main rule in word and number codes, then apply it to a small example. State the assumption that makes your reasoning valid.
Review the noteUse overlapping examples to identify common words or digits. Record unresolved possibilities rather than guessing a unique mapping too early.
Worked example: "red small box" is coded 2 5 8 and "red large box" is 2 7 8. Small corresponds to 5 and large to 7; red and box remain unresolved between 2 and 8.
BEGINNER
Each letter moves forward once: DOG → EPH.
